INSiGHTful ORiGiNS

Picture(L-R) Dave, Bree, Steve, Janet, Chester, Tamaro
INSiGHT is a rock/metal band. Our influences range across ALL genre's of the rock and metal landscape; from classic to hard, from soft to heavy, we have a little something for everyone!!

INSiGHT started out as the byproduct of 2 musicians (Dave and Steve) that wanted to express themselves and their journeys. So they got together with 4 other people (Bree, Janet, Chester, and Tamaro) that just wanted to jam. A couple of them had never even been in a band before. They started out just playing some simple cover songs; Come Together, Stand by Me, Float On, Shine, etc..... but Dave wanted more, so one day he brought an original song to the band called Reaching...

...and the original INSiGHT was born.

Dave, being the main songwriter, musically and lyrically, was churning out songs at a feverish pace. Every now and then, another member would bring Dave lyrics and he would put music to it and it would go into the set. After playing multiple local shows and writing an album worth of songs, INSiGHT decided to hit the studio and record a 4 song ep called THE BEGINNING.

After that... this thing called Life happened and a couple members left the band. Soon after, a couple other members moved away, and as much as they tried, with replacement members, Dave and Bree could not keep the lineup together. So with that, INSiGHT the band dissolved, until...there was an awakening! Dave decided he cannot let INSiGHT fade away into the night... so he took up the mantle and kept it going. Dave continued writing songs, making them more personal, more complex and more aggressive. INSiGHT is here to stay, and while it only consists of Dave doing all the music and (yikes) the vocals.... that is how it will be for now. But we never know what the future will bring. Do we?

Dave

Born and raised in Redlands, CA, Dave’s childhood started out like any normal sitcom-type of adolescence. He was in Boy Scouts, was on a soccer team, played little league (which his dad coached), was very involved in martial arts (Taekwondo), racing BMX, and skateboarding. But, for all the different hobbies that Dave sunk his teeth into, none of them truly held his attention for long. None of them really touched his soul. Until one fateful day in 1987, his older sister’s boyfriend Tony, left a cassette tape at their house that changed his life. What was the tape?

Appetite for Destruction by Guns n’ Roses

Prior to that Dave was into the typical pop of that era, but hearing that album, the screeching passionate vocals of Axl Rose, the power punk flow of Duff’s bass, and the thunderous groove of Steve Adler’s drums was unlike anything he had heard before. But one thing stood out above all else to Dave….. the wailing, sliding, slithery sound of Slash’s guitar.

His introduction to hard rock eventually led to heavy metal, which led Dave to one of the greatest metal bands of all time, Metallica. While G’n’R was an introduction, Metallica became an addiction. Specifically, James Hetfield’s jack hammer rhythm guitar playing and Kirk Hammett’s wah-wah infused soloing. That music touched his soul like nothing else. He NEEDED to play guitar….

Dave began “playing” on his dad’s old Silvertone acoustic guitar (his dad got it on his 21st birthday from the Sears Roebuck catalog) The first song he learned was “One” by Metallica. After that, he started trying to learn anything he could. Nothing was off limits; Poison, Motley Crue, Prince, hell, even George Michael. But the old Silvertone could only do so much (which he still has BTW) Christmas of ‘89 Dave only wanted one thing… an electric guitar. And he got one, with one kaveat, it was a very cheap Traveling Wilburys guitar. (Understandably, his parents didn’t want to buy him an expensive guitar just to have his attention slowly burn out, but little did they know, this was gonna stick) So after another year or so, he got his Ibanez.

Playing in multiple bands through his teen years, even playing concerts at his high school and winning 2 talent shows with his bands, music became his full bodied passion. Dave was a guitar player at heart and 90% of the time, band practices were at his house, so when there was no one around Dave would play the other instruments, mainly drums. Dave just wanted to play music, and sometimes that meant playing a different instrument, so he even played drums for a local punk band for a few years. All that would pay off in 1998 when he founded a band called Flatline. While playing in Flatline, they recorded a short demo that received some radio airplay and was getting a good amount of attention. It was also during this time that Dave was introduced to Korn and then, Slipknot. Both bands DRASTICALLY changed Dave’s playing style and caused him to look at the guitar differently than he ever had before. Unfortunately, right when Flatline was starting to break into the local scene, personal reasons caused the band to break up and Flatline was DOA.

For years, Dave just tooled around, and would just write songs. Eventually he met the girl of his dreams, Cara, and married her before she could escape. While music remained a priority, his life would lead him into spirituality, and he would learn about the Science of Mind by Ernest Holmes and meet his spiritual guru, Rev. Steven Van Meter, who forever changed his life, and who also happened to be a student of the late, great Randy Rhoads, one of Dave’s guitar influences. Their connection was immediate. Rev. Steve re-invigorated Dave’s passion for music, and together they formed INSiGHT…..

...and the rest, is history.
